Hello, my name is Jennifer Varicatt and I am a Registered Social Service Worker, Psychotherapist.

For the past ten years, I have worked and dedicated my time working in the Social Services field specializing in working with marginalized at-risk youths with aggressive behavioural issues. I had the privilege to work at York Region public and catholic school board throughout the GTA as an agency staff Early Childcare Assistant assisting with special needs children with high-risk behavioural issues with feeding, toileting, and schoolwork and documentation of any behavioural outbursts that arise. I have also worked as an agency staff working in different group homes within the Greater Toronto Area as a Developmental Support Worker and as an Autism Support Worker working with individuals with mental health-related issues such as Anxiety disorders, OCD, Schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, eating disorder, Autism, self-harm/ suicidal ideation and High-risk behavioural issues in assisting with the daily supervision of residents in the residential environment, schools, de-escalating crisis/ at-risk behaviour that may arise and case management. I have also worked as agency staff as a child and youth worker in the York Region day treatment centre working with youths and children ranging from 10-19 years old. I have gone one-to-one with a youth/ child to schools and attended every class that youth/child had that was either on site or at York Region Public School to assist the teachers to de-escalate when a youth or child had disruptive aggressive behaviour that opposes harm to themselves or others around them. I am currently doing a part-time job supervising noncustodial parents with their children during a transfer or a visit.

The one aspect of my job that I enjoyed was having one-to-one talks with my clients while doing an activity such as doing laundry, cooking, shopping, etc. figuring out their hopes and dreams, and assisting them to reach their true potential. For both clients and colleagues, I always ensure that I have a connection to the person I am speaking with and that they feel valued and heard.

When a pandemic hits, like all of us we struggle to find our place in the world and how to cope with the world falling around us. I took some time and realized what I truly enjoy is talking with people and helping people with their problems but I wanted to do more than what I have done before hence “Inner Strength Therapy” was born. Through every struggle and pain the person goes through, there is always an inner strength inside of them to help them get through it.
